San Francisco's Must - Visit Landmarks
Have you always dreamed of a trip to San Francisco? Is the Golden Gate Bridge on your bucket list?
If California is calling, and you are ready to start planning your trip to the "City by the Bay," this blog is for you. Welcome to Hotel Caza's guide to the Top-10 landmarks in San Francisco.
#10 Coit Tower
This 210-foot tower overlooks the city from its perch on Telegraph Hill. From outside the tower, you'll enjoy a sweeping panoramic view of the city and the bay. On the inside of the tower, you can admire murals of California life during the Great Depression. For a scenic workout, take the Filbert Street Stairs from Embarcadero, on the waterfront, all the way to the top!
#9 Chinatown
Step through the ornate Dragon Gate and into the oldest and largest Chinatown in North America (also the largest Chinatown outside of Asia). Load up on tasty food, vibrant culture, interesting architecture, and fascinating history. Chinatown is a true feast for the senses and a window into the rich heritage of Chinese Americans.
#8 Lombard Street
"The crookedest street in the world." Bring your walking shoes and get ready to zig and zag. Lombard Street's steep (27%) incline, eight sharp turns, and beautifully landscaped gardens make it an unusual and must-see SF attraction.
#7 Painted Ladies
Get your Instagram ready. These charming houses, set against the city skyline, create a classic SF photo opportunity. You will probably recognize the Victorian and Edwardian houses from movies, TV shows, and ads. To get a pic of the most famous Painted Ladies, head to Steiner Street in Alamo Square.
#6 Palace of Fine Arts
This beloved SF landmark is a stunning architectural site, surrounded by a beautiful pond, with swans and bird life. It was originally built for the 195 Panama-Pacific Exposition and is the only remaining structure from the event. Bring your camera and enjoy a scenic stroll amongst the unique architecture and landscaping.
#5 Union Square
Known as San Francisco's premier shopping and theater district, Union Square is a vibrant hub for both locals and tourists. Browse world-class shops, trendy cafes, and art galleries. In the winter, enjoy ice skating and holiday season events. The square has a convenient cable car turnaround at Powell and Market Streets.
#4 Baker Beach
We had to include one beach on this Top-10 list. Baker Beach is a local gem. It's a mile-long stretch os sand with unbeatable views of the Pacific Ocean and Golden Gate Bridge. An epic spot for a sunset picnic and a quiet escape from the hustle and bustle of the city.
#3 Alcatraz Island
Welcome to the rock! Located in the San Francisco Bay, Alcatraz Island invites visitors to explore the infamous former prison that once held some of America's most notorious criminals. Accessible by ferry, Alcatraz offers chilling tours, tales of escape, and excellent views of the city skyline.
#2 Golden Gate Bridge
When you first read the title of this blog post, did you think the Golden Gate Bridge would be number 1 on the list? Almost!
No trip to San Fran is complete without visiting the legendary Golden Gate Bridge. Whether you decide to walk, bike, or drive across, it's 1.7 miles of stunning San Francisco scenery.
Golden Gate Park is a green oasis featuring gardens, museums, and recreational facilities. Highlights include the Japanese Tea Garden, de Young Museum, and the California Academy of Sciences.
#1 Fisherman's Wharf
If you haven't been to Fisherman's Wharf, you might be thinking, How can a fishing wharf possibly trump the iconic Golden Gate Bridge?
Don't get us wrong, the Golden Gate Bridge is an absolute beauty—an engineering marvel. But Fisherman's Wharf is like an onion... it has layers. It's a whole series of attractions that make it the #1 destination in SF.
Home to Pier 39, the Red & White Fleet, Ghirardelli Square, Alcatraz Landing, and the Historic Cable Car turnarounds. The bustling waterfront has restaurants, seafood stalls, shops, lounging sea lions, and clam chowder served in sourdough bread bowls.
